Food, drink, and shopping

As part of the Granite Belt and its famous wine region, Glen Aplin contributes with four different wineries: Kominos Wines, Jester Hill Wines, Mountview Wines, and the Art of Krupinski.

Jamworks Gourmet Foods make use of local stone fruit and grapes to produce a diverse range of jams, relishes, chutneys, and sauces. A lot of their produce is also gluten free, which we appreciate! Don’t forget to check out their café if you’re stopping by.

For the non-foodies, The Ugg Boot Lady sells a variety of boots, slippers, and rugs. You can find the shop just off the New England Highway.

Exploring

The Severn River flows past Severn River Cottages and round the western edge of Glen Aplin. It’s a popular river for fishing and kayaking due to its gentle flow. We’ve also spotted many birds along the river, including some azure kingfishers, cormorants, and darters.

Kayaking on the Severn River

The Stanthorpe to Ballandean bike trail takes you over the Severn River and through Glen Aplin, which is roughly halfway through the route. Cyclists choosing to take this moderately challenging route will be rewarded with winery views and rolling hills.

In the area is a disused railway station, sitting on the Southern railway line between Toowoomba and Wallangarra. Although it’s not possible to board a train here, the Downs Explorer steam train passes through the station on their Stanthorpe to Ballandean tour.

If you don’t mind travelling a bit further, there’s plenty of things to do in Stanthorpe and the Granite Belt.
