Glen Aplin Fireys on the Job

One cool evening in August 2024, crews from our local Rural Fire Service (RFS) were busy at work. They performed controlled burning off in fields and scrub along Thorndale Road, near Severn River Cottages.

This common hazard reduction burn clears the potentially dangerous accumulation of undergrowth. This reduces the risk and severity of any bushfires during the hotter months.

Despite the dramatic images of the crews expertly at work and the blaze lighting up the night, the fire was short-lived and fully controlled. The Glen Aplin Rural Fire Brigade achieved its controlled burn off with startling speed and efficiency.

Only a few weeks later new growth has returned with green grass replacing the scorched earth.

The jobs the fireys do are important, and we’re thankful to the team for their hard work in keeping us all safe!
