Stanthorpe is well-known for its bustling wineries, but don’t discredit the local pubs and hotels! We love our beer at Severn River Cottages, so we’ve diligently sampled the local offering. With that, these are our recommendations for the best Stanthorpe pubs.
Our top pick: Brass Monkey Brew House
Location: 106 Donges Road, Severnlea, QLD 4380
We like it because: rotating home-brewed beer, delicious gluten-free pizzas, and knowledgeable staff 🍕
Brass Monkey Brew House takes our number one choice for pubs in Stanthorpe. Just a few minutes’ drive from the heart of town, this Stanthorpe brewery is not to be missed on your trip to the Granite Belt.
We love to enjoy a drink in their beer garden, overlooking a rural setting and vast sky. The inside isn’t too shabby either with the walls decorated with paintings and various beer paraphernalia.
Whilst we’re lager drinkers at heart, the Brass Monkey offer a rotating range of home-brewed IPAs, ales, bitters, and ginger beer.
One big reason we keep coming back to Brass Monkey is their superb gluten-free offering. There’s always a gluten-free beer available, and the kitchen offers delicious gluten-free pizzas.
Brass Monkey Brew House is worth the small detour from Severn River Cottages as you head towards town. We’re looking forward to visiting again soon!
Highly recommended: Ballandean Pub & Motel
Location: 1 St Judes Lane, Ballandean, QLD 4382
We like it because: Community spirit and great space for the whole family
The Ballandean Pub & Motel is a brilliant pub overlooking the Southern railway line as it passes through Ballandean. It’s an attractive pub with a large outside seating area and playground for the kids. The veranda offers great views – it’s lovely to watch the world pass by with an ice-cold beer in hand!
The current owners of the pub have worked hard to create a place for the community to come together. Large groups, families, and couples can visit the pub for a meal, drink, and a boogie at one of their regular live music events! There’s always something going on at the pub and we love their community spirit.
Highly recommended: O’Mara’s Hotel Stanthorpe
Location: 45 Maryland Street, Stanthorpe, QLD 4380
We like it because: Classic pub vibe with hearty food and mammoth portions
O’Mara’s Hotel in the centre of Stanthorpe is a real old-school pub. There’s a good range of beers on tap and a well-stocked fridge full of local wines.
The décor is reminiscent of old country pubs; after all, the building is over a hundred years old. Take a look at the photographs on the wall for some insight into local history.
When we visit O’Mara’s, we tend to order food as well. The food is reasonably priced, and you get a huge amount on your plate. The menu is what you’d expect from a typical pub, but we have to give a big shout out to their gluten-free rissoles and gravy, as that’s a firm favourite of ours! It’s a great place for a pub lunch in Stanthorpe.
