Severn River Cottages is lucky to be within an hour’s drive of six national parks: Sundown, Basket Swamp and Maryland (all in New South Wales), Girraween, Bald Rock and of course Boonoo Boonoo National Park (in Queensland).
About Boonoo Boonoo National Park
Sources have differed on what the name Boonoo Boonoo (pronounced bunna-bunoo) actually means. More recently it is said the name means “big rock” from the Jukambal language, however it was previously thought to mean “poor country with no animals to provide food”.
Things to do at Boonoo Boonoo
One of the most popular reasons to visit Boonoo Boonoo is for swimming. The Boonoo Boonoo River passes through the national park, providing water for the various rock pools and waterfalls. Some rock pools are deeper than others, so be careful when diving in.
Camping at Boonoo Boonoo is a great way to relax, watch the sunrise and sunset, and see the wildlife. Visit the platypus pool in the early morning or late afternoon for a chance to spot a platypus!
If swimming or overnight stays are not your thing, there are plenty of hiking and walking tracks to explore during the day.
